Invisalign: The Invisible Way to Straighten Your Smile!
Don’t let the thought of having braces and wires on your teeth keep you from the beautiful smile you seek. You can get the same straightening results with Invisalign. Invisalign is the invisible way to straighten your smile and achieve your dream smile. At SouthFork Dental, we offer Invisalign orthodontics to our patients in Irving, Texas. By answering your questions about Invisalign, Dr. Bindu Kolli can help you decide if it’s the right orthodontic treatment for you.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic system that uses clear, thermoplastic aligners to straighten your teeth. Dr. Kolli will have a series of aligners customized for your treatment. The aligners work by putting gentle pressure on your teeth to shift them into a straighter position, as predetermined by your personalized treatment plan. You’ll switch to a new set of aligners every two weeks to continue the straightening process until your treatment is complete.
Invisalign vs Braces: What’s the difference?
We’re all familiar with traditional braces and their metal brackets and wire composition. Although they’re highly effective at straightening crooked teeth, they can be awkward, uncomfortable, and inconvenient. The braces are permanently attached to your teeth for the length of your treatment, making it necessary to adjust your diet, oral hygiene habits, and lifestyle.
In contrast, Invisalign aligners are easy to use, comfortable to wear, inconspicuous, and convenient. They can be removed for eating and oral hygiene. The invisible aligners make it easy to socialize or attend business meetings without worrying about your appearance. You can eat what you like and maintain a good oral hygiene routine.
What orthodontic issues can Invisalign correct?
Invisalign works best on minor to moderate problems with crooked teeth, malocclusion, gaps, and overcrowding. If your problems are severe, Dr. Kolli may recommend metal braces to correct them.
Can I eat with the aligners on?
Eating with Invisalign aligners is not recommended, as they can become stained or damaged, making them ineffective in straightening teeth. They should always be removed for eating and returned immediately after brushing your teeth. Ideally, the aligners should be worn for 20–22 hours daily.
How do I care for my Invisalign aligners?
Dr. Kolli recommends brushing your aligners with a soft bristle toothbrush and non-scented liquid soap in between meals. This rids the aligners of plaque, bacteria, and debris. You can also soak the aligners in Invisalign solution to disinfect them. Always rinse the aligners thoroughly before reusing them.
How long does Invisalign take to straighten teeth?
Treatment times vary, depending on your individual dental needs. We can, however, give you an estimate of how long you’ll need aligner treatment at the time of your initial consultation. This time frame, however, depends on your diligence to wear the aligners as instructed. On average, most treatments last 12 to 18 months.
